Puppet is one of the nation?s top arts and culture of Indonesia?s most prominent among other cultures. Include the role of puppet art culture, the art of singing, music, speech arts, literary arts, painting, sculpture, and art is also symbolic. Puppet culture which continues to grow from age to age can be used as a media of propaganda, education, entertainment, philosophical understanding, as well as entertainment.
According to research by historians of culture, puppet is a traditional culture from Indonesia, especially in Java. It was exist since the era before Hindus enter Java. Although the popular puppet story in today?s society is an adaptation of a literary work of India, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Both are undergone many changes and additions to adapt it to the original philosophy of Indonesia.
Puppets are played by a man who called Dalang. During the night, dalang playing shadow puppets. He had to change the character of the sound, intonation changed, removing jokes and even sing.
